Muskogee, a young stallion living in the McCollough Peaks herd management area of Wyoming. I recently spent time in this area and captured this young bachelor dashing from the waterhole. Spending time on our public lands with these iconic animals is a form of pure inspiration for me. Horses are great teachers and healers; I learn so much about them and myself by observing them in their natural habitat. This image recently won an honorable mention in the International Color Awards along with several other images receiving nominations. I am truly honored.
Late this winter I photographed a small herd in the Challis HMA (herd management area) in Idaho that I frequent when visiting family there. It is a stunning vast landscape covered in intoxicating sagebrush with the Lost River Mountain Range in the background. Click here to learn more about the wild horse issue. I donate a portion of sales of my equine images to organizations involved in the protection of wild horses and organizations working to keep all horses out of the slaughter pipeline.

During the pandemic I created an encaustic studio in my home and began working with encaustic art which I have studied off and on for the past 10 years. Encaustic is the layering of beeswax and damar resin with pigments, fusing each layer together with a torch creating texture, layers and translucency. The works do not need to be framed or covered with glass and can be touched which adds to their allure. More to come…
